About
The RÅC International Summer School is a joint initiative by Sweden and Germany within the collaborative framework of the Röntgen-Ångström-Cluster (RAC) (with the previous RACIRI events until 2021 further including the Russian Federation and the collaborative framework of the previous Ioffe Röntgen Institute IRI). As of RÅC-2024, the collaboration extends to other nations in the Baltic region, namely Poland, Estonia and Denmark. The school's venue rotates annually among the partner countries.
The format of the Summer School is driven by scientific frontier themes and challenges in the field of materials sciences that have a strong connection to the superb analytical potential at current and future research infrastructures for photons, X-rays and neutrons in the Baltic Sea region (synchrotron-radiation and free-electron-laser facilities as well as research reactors and spallation sources).
These summer schools provide a stimulating learning environment with sufficient time for social and cultural activities among the students. Each year, internationally renowned scientists and experts from relevant fields are invited as lecturers and tutors to provide a perfect frame for interactions and dialogue between the generations. Each school has a highlighting Keynote Lecture by a towering scientist. All students attending the RÅC International Summer School will be actively engaged in the program through special Poster Sessions, a Science Slam, Tutorials and a Cultural Evening directed by the students.
